June 2018 Newsletter

A Word From Our Director ~ Pastor Andrew Pistone

In this line of ministry, you experience much heartbreak, because - many times the Word of God seems to fall on deaf ears. The only way I can keep a healthy perspective, is to avoid inserting myself in the middle of God's work. After all, it is Almighty God who moves hearts, and the best thing we can do is to pray without ceasing and plant seeds. “A time to plant...” Ecclesiastes 3:2
On the other hand, God is so loving to us, and encouraging to us, that He sometimes allows us to experience the other part of that verse, “....and a time to harvest.”

A little over a year and a half ago, Laura Halbert came to the Door of Hope seeking admission to our program. I remember that day well. At the time, I anticipated that she would be trouble, but I was completely wrong. We have watched Laura grow – right before our eyes, and it has been an inspiration. She has spent countless hours listening to praise songs and sermons-upon-sermons to satisfy her thirst for Jesus. The transformation is real and palpable. Her relationship with Jesus is everything to her.

Our mission is to provide Christ-filled care to people in desperate need, so that they can experience the power of the Gospel, have victory over their struggles, and live fruitful lives.

Thank you for supporting our ministry with your prayers and your gifts.

A Word From Laura Halbert

When Pastor Andrew asked me if I would write something for our newsletter, I “bathed it in prayer," as he suggested.

The Lord brought to my attention that the majority of you reading this have already come to Jesus. You know of God's saving grace.

My testimony of how Jesus has brought me from bondage into blessing isn't only meant to tell those who are lost about Jesus, but it's also meant to give hope to Christians who worry about their sons and daughters, their siblings, or their friends who battle with drugs and alcohol.

After high school - that way of life had me in its chains for 17 years. I tumbled further and further down that rabbit hole...losing my children, my self-esteem, and the respect of my family. I found myself alone and scared and crying out to God to show me a new way of life. He led me to Turning Point, a 30-day drug rehab, and from there, I came to the Door of Hope Mission. I have been here for a year and a half. I now lead the morning service here Monday through Friday. I also work at the Door of Hope Thrift Store. I recently got engaged to a wonderful man - my relationship with my children gets stronger and stronger - and my mother is my best friend.

I am 33 years old and most of my adult life, I stayed as far away and out of touch with my mom as I could. She has told me that she was heartbroken, that she blamed herself for how my life had turned out - which was a burden and a blame that wasn't hers - but she never stopped praying for me.

My grandparents would place my name in the prayer request box at church every week. The Lord hears the prayers of the righteous. I urge you and I beg you to never stop praying for those you love. No matter how many years it's been, don't give up hope.
The Lord wants us to pray our loved ones into repentance, into the loving arms of Christ. Prayer is the most important tool we have against the enemy who imprisons the ones we love.

I am, and will be forever grateful to those who kept me in prayer.

Laura Halbert
