A CHRISTIAN MISSION
January 2018 Newsletter
A Word From Our Director ~ Pastor Andrew Pistone
It is my hope and prayer that 2018 will be a year when you come to realize that “We can't even walk without holding His hand.” This is the time of year when we hear many people say, “Happy New Year.” Especially on New Year's Eve, many people are celebrating by blowing horns, throwing confetti, and exchanging kisses at the stroke of midnight. Everyone seems to be searching for happiness – not just in those beginning moments of the New Year, but in every area of their lives.
As followers of Christ, we can enjoy these celebrations of the new year, but we know that the party favors and good wishes won't change our circumstances; and the greetings of “Happy New Year” will not change our circumstances either. We know that true joy comes only through a relationship with Jesus.
The ONLY one who can radically change our lives is Jesus. First, we must confess that we are sinners and be repentant of those sins - trusting that His sacrifice was enough to pay for all our sins – past, present, and future. Instead of being involved in a pattern of sin, we can have a guarantee of everlasting life - if we repent and follow Christ. Through Him - the great “I AM” - we can move from darkness to light, and from hopelessness to assurance.
1 Corinthians 5:17 says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
This verse speaks of “a new creation.” It's much like a butterfly, which looks radically different from the caterpillar. There has been a complete transformation. We must realize that when we repent of our sin and follow Christ, we become a new creation, with a changed life. In this earthly life, we will sustain some bumps in the road, and we probably won't go through life without some significant challenges and difficulties, but through Christ, we can be brand new.
God said it. Believe it. “The old has gone, the new is here.”
Satan seems to enjoy reminding us of our past “caterpillar life,” but God wants us to rejoice in our forgiveness and fly like a beautiful butterfly.
Since I arrived at the Mission four years ago, I have been drilling into the hearts of our guests that we must have a personal relationship with God. We seem to develop many layers of relationships with one another, but often fail at the most important one – a one-on-one relationship with Christ.
One great way of achieving this objective is through prayer. We have begun a study of the biblically based movie, “War Room.” (If you haven't seen it, I hope you will.) This is a five-week study that focuses our attention on being intentional in our relationship with God - through prayer.
Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
